AN ANALYSIS OF AN EXCEPTIONAL EVENT

JULY 18, 2009

 

Recorded concentrations at four Imperial County Air Monitoring Stations violated the National Ambient Air Quality Standard on July 18, 2009.

 

 

 

STATION CONCENTRATION
Niland 202 µg/m3
Brawley 167 µg/m3
El Centro 161 µg/m3
Calexico 155 µg/m3

On July 18, 2009 an extreme dust storm impacted Imperial County with recorded wind speed up to 40 miles per hour (mph).  The storm created what is now commonly known as a haboob.

The public is encouraged to review and comment on the analyzed exceptional event.  All comments must be received the Air Pollution Control District no later than 5:00pm June 19, 2012.  Below is a link to the documentation and the attachments.

The comment period ended - The Air District received no comments regarding the demonstration.  A final internal review occurred and a Final Document was transmitted to the California Air Resources Board.
